The calculator multiplies people × beef meals per week × weeks × your raw portion size, then adds the cushion you choose.

For packed freezer space, it uses the University of Minnesota Extension rule of thumb that about 30 pounds of meat takes one cubic foot. The practical target adds 15% working room so packages are easier to organize.
